VIVEKA GOYANES
ART & DESIGN

My name is Viveka. I am a multidisciplinary artist and designer currently based in London (UK). I was born in A Coruña, on the northwest coast of Galicia, Spain, but my professional career has allowed me to live in places such as London, Madrid, Antwerp and New York City.

From textile art to editorial publishing or photography, creativity has always served as a reflection of a lifelong search in which the artistic act represents a transformation, not just from a physical perspective through symbolic art pieces, but also from an emotional and spiritual one.

My idea of creation can be described as alchemical, seeking a betterment of the environment and a correspondence and balance between the inner and outer worlds, the physical and the psychological, the past and the present and the self and the community. Manifesting change is the ultimate goal.

After working long-term as a fashion designer, I developed a deep interest in the repurposing of discarded and used garments and how they can be reshaped into something new, each telling its own story. This focus on the emotional and residual reflects themes of loss, absence, the passage of time, a psychogeographical approach to places and a profound love for imperfection.

Under the name amoelbarroco, I developed a conceptual garment design initiative in which the designs are part of a wider narrative that inspires people to live more consciously, promoting sustainable practices as much as possible.

My work has been exhibited across Spain in cities such as Santiago, A Coruña, Madrid, Salamanca or León, as well as internationally in locations including London, New York, Ankara, Cairo, and Amman.
